The movie “Abraham Ozler,” penned by Randheer Krishnan and directed by Midhun Manuel Thomas, ventures into the familiar territory of serial killers leaving clues for investigators, albeit with a slight twist. Instead of the typical Bible quotes, the killer leaves other cryptic hints for the protagonist, brooding investigator Abraham Ozler (played by Jayaram). Ozler, still haunted by the disappearance of his wife and daughter, is thrust into action when a series of murders, all following a similar pattern, occur.
Initially, the film sets up intriguing elements, such as Ozler’s hallucinations and the mysterious murders, but fails to sustain them. As the narrative progresses, these elements lose their impact, and the plot feels predictable. Even the introduction of Mammootty in a cameo fails to inject much-needed excitement.
Despite being labeled as a medical thriller, “Abraham Ozler” struggles with clumsy scenes and poorly written dialogue. The revelations made by surgeons and forensic experts lack the expected shock factor. Additionally, the protagonist’s personal struggles feel like mere embellishments until the rushed epilogue hints at a potential sequel, raising doubts about whether the film has enough substance to warrant one.
Overall, “Abraham Ozler” falls short of delivering a compelling narrative, highlighting the need for a refresh in the serial killer movie template.
